Staff Data Scientist – Lead Data Strategy

About the role

As a Staff Data Scientist you will own the data strategy for a critical product domain such as Growth, Retention or Marketplace. You will partner with Directors and VPs across Product, Engineering and Business to shape long‑term strategy, influence investment decisions and ensure the roadmap is grounded in rigorous, scalable measurement frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a strategic understanding of key value drivers—user behavior, marketplace dynamics, pricing and unit economics—and translate them into actionable decision frameworks for leadership.
• Define and lead the long‑term measurement and experimentation programme, designing and evaluating large‑scale experiments that drive business outcomes.
• Conduct deep analytical investigations into customer behavior and retention, turning ambiguous questions into structured analyses that improve long‑term value.
• Own impact modelling and scenario analysis for major product initiatives, providing robust forecasting, trade‑off analysis and risk assessment for quarterly and annual planning.
• Define and govern key metrics within your domain, ensuring clarity, consistency and alignment with company‑wide objectives.

Required profile

• Proven track record of materially influencing product or business strategy in complex environments.
• Expertise in experimentation and causal inference, able to guide high‑stakes decisions even when clean experiments are not feasible.
• Strong understanding of subscription and marketplace economics, including LTV modelling, cohort dynamics and pricing trade‑offs.
• Technical proficiency in SQL and Python, with experience reviewing and elevating the analytical work of others.
• Experience mentoring senior data scientists and contributing to the growth of the data organization.
