Surveyor I – Entry Level Marine Surveyor

About the role

The Surveyor I is an entry‑level position designed for recent graduates or professionals with less than five years of experience in marine surveying. Working under direct supervision, you will conduct conventional surveys of vessels, platforms and other marine structures to ensure compliance with ABS classification rules and statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a specialist in applying ABS rules, guides, and statutory regulations.
• Perform routine surveys on classed vessels, offshore platforms and at manufacturers.
• Prepare accurate and timely inspection reports.
• Interact with clients to resolve technical issues.
• Maintain organized survey files and support office administration at the assigned port.
• Develop a thorough understanding of field operations, policies and procedures through progressively challenging assignments.

Required profile

• Degree in engineering, physical science, or a marine/nautical program with relevant seagoing experience.
• Proficiency in English appropriate for statutory certification work.
• Relevant certifications or licenses may be required.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides and related statutory regulations.
• Ability to read engineering plans and understand basic shipbuilding practices.
• Competence in performing surveys using prescribed formats and software.
• Familiarity with computer programs related to marine surveying.
• Knowledge of ship engineering systems and machinery.
• Strong oral and written communication for technical reporting.
• Analytical problem‑solving and customer‑focused attitude.
