Surveyor I

About the role

The Surveyor I is an entry‑level position for recent graduates or candidates with less than five years of experience, performing conventional marine surveying under direct supervision. The role focuses on examining vessels and marine structures to ensure compliance with ABS classification and statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine surveys on classed vessels, platforms, and other marine structures, as well as at manufacturers, to verify compliance with classification and statutory regulations.
• Prepare accurate and timely inspection reports and maintain orderly survey files.
• Interact with clients to address technical issues and support resolution within the surveyor’s area of expertise.

Required profile

• Degree in engineering, physical science, or a marine/nautical discipline, typically a minimum two‑year program, or relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer.
• Physical ability to climb ladders up to nine metres, work at heights, lift at least 25 lb, and operate in confined or industrial environments.

Required skills

• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and basic shipbuilding practices.
• Knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, and related statutory regulations.
• Familiarity with ship engineering systems and machinery.
• Proficiency with computer software used for survey documentation and reporting.
