Head of Accounting

About the role

ING is seeking a senior accounting leader to oversee financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and the integrity of accounting processes across the bank. The role will drive financial governance, enhance process efficiency, and support ING’s digital transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes in line with IFRS and local regulations.
• Ensure accuracy of the general ledger and all sub‑processes (AP, AR, fixed assets, treasury accounting, provisions, reconciliations).
• Supervise preparation of financial statements and regulatory reports.
• Maintain strong internal controls and act as primary contact for internal and external auditors.
• Lead system integration projects, including ERP implementations, data migrations, and connections with core banking platforms.
• Partner with IT and business teams to validate data integrity and automate accounting flows.
• Manage, mentor and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Finance, Risk, Treasury, Operations and Technology stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
• Strong background in banking or financial services.
• Proven experience in systems integration projects such as ERP implementation, data migration or process mapping.
