Predoctoral Researcher – High Temperature Electrolyser Development

About the role

The university is seeking a predoctoral researcher to join the ESYMAT group and contribute to the HT‑SOEC project, which aims to develop a prototype solid oxide electrolyser for green hydrogen production. The position is a three‑year thesis contract based in Madrid.

Key responsibilities

• Perform ceramic and advanced material synthesis using methods such as precipitation, sol‑gel, combustion, hydrothermal and microwave‑assisted hydrothermal techniques.
• Carry out structural characterization using X‑ray diffraction, neutron diffraction and electron diffraction.
• Conduct electrical and electrochemical testing of SOFC and SOEC materials, including AC impedance spectroscopy and DC measurements.
• Collaborate with partner institutions across Spain on joint research tasks.

Required profile

• University degree and Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering or a closely related field.
• Interest in renewable energy technologies and solid oxide electrolysis.

Required skills

• Ceramic synthesis techniques (precipitation, sol‑gel, combustion, hydrothermal, microwave‑assisted hydrothermal).
• Structural analysis tools: X‑ray diffraction, neutron diffraction, electron diffraction.
• Electrochemical characterization: AC impedance spectroscopy, DC methods.
