Director Business Line Compliance

About the role

The Director Business Line Compliance will lead Santander’s compliance function for Global Markets, Global Banking and Global Transaction Banking in Madrid. Reporting to senior business leadership, you will shape and execute the compliance strategy, ensuring alignment with global frameworks while influencing key business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the compliance strategy for the Madrid platform, aligning local priorities with Santander CIB global objectives.
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior executives, providing real‑time advisory on complex, high‑impact matters across sales, trading, banking and transaction banking.
• Lead a high‑performing compliance team, fostering a culture of accountability, integrity and risk awareness.
• Represent Spain in global compliance governance forums and contribute to enterprise‑wide decision‑making.
• Oversee advisory, governance, regulatory engagement and control activities, including coverage of complex products and new business initiatives.
• Serve as the primary liaison with local regulators, managing inquiries, thematic reviews, inspections and enforcement matters.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading compliance functions within a large banking or financial institution.
• Proven ability to advise senior business leaders on regulatory and risk matters.
• Strong understanding of global and local regulatory frameworks affecting markets, banking and transaction banking.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record of building and developing high‑performing teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, especially with supervisory authorities.
