About the role

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center is looking for a Systems Engineer to join its Operations Department within the System Administration team. The role focuses on administering Linux‑based infrastructures, high‑performance computing (HPC) clusters, and core IT services, with a primary responsibility for the Trusted Research Environment (TRE) that processes sensitive, GDPR‑regulated data for AI and research workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot core IT services such as email systems, web services, databases, and server infrastructure.
• Administer, optimise, and maintain storage subsystems and backup solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Manage and support HPC environments, including configuration, monitoring, and performance tuning of Linux‑based clusters.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of reliability, performance, and scalability of computing and service platforms.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations when handling sensitive research data.

Required profile

• Proven experience in Linux system administration.
• Experience managing HPC clusters and related services.
• Knowledge of storage and backup technologies.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
• Familiarity with GDPR‑related data handling is desirable.
