Observability Engineer

About the role

Join BASF's Digital Hub in Madrid as an Observability Engineer, working within the Visibility Team to build AI‑driven observability solutions that provide end‑to‑end visibility across application performance, network performance and IT infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Understand internal business partners' observability needs and translate them into platform requirements.
• Own the full observability landscape, from infrastructure design and tooling development to CI/CD deployment, operational monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Integrate and optimise existing tools such as Grafana, Gigamon, Traffic Broker, Zabbix, Cisco, ThousandEyes, ELK and leverage AI to create additional value.
• Steer managed services and ensure reliable delivery of monitoring data to stakeholders.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in security operations or IT monitoring within medium to large enterprises.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a proactive, out‑of‑the‑box mindset.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a globally distributed virtual team.
• Professional English communication skills.

Required skills

• Python, JavaScript, Shell scripting.
• Version control systems (GitLab, Bitbucket).
• CI/CD concepts and tools.
• Monitoring platforms: Datadog, Dynatrace, SolarWinds, NetScout, Zabbix, Nagios, checkMK, Splunk, ELK.
• Network visibility tools: Grafana, Gigamon, Traffic Broker, Cisco, ThousandEyes.
• Cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and AI assistance tools (GitHub Copilot, LLM concepts).
