About the role
AECOM is looking for an experienced Water Infrastructure Project Manager / Design Manager to lead its design team within a consultancy environment. The role covers complex infrastructure such as hydropower, pumped storage, dams, heavy civil, underground works or major conveyance systems, and involves overseeing design processes, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design process from project planning to execution and closure, mobilising a multi-country delivery team across civil, structures, geotech, hydraulics/hydrology, tunnelling/underground and digital/BIM, defining scope and managing change control.
- Develop project strategies and plans, build the delivery plan, maintain staffing forecasts and milestone tracking, and report weekly status.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, integrate disciplines, coordinate underground geometry and access constraints, and confirm digital tools and workflows including CDE/ACC, model and drawing standards.
- Oversee design stages from concept to delivery, manage technical interfaces between packages, run regular design reviews and monitor progress.
- Maintain design quality and compliance with AECOM's quality principles, industry regulations and client specifications, and implement QA/QC checks and reviews.
- Act as main point of contact for design matters, give expert advice, update stakeholders on schedule and cost impacts and manage expectations.
- Manage project budgets, optimise design resources, handle change requests and identify and mitigate delivery and technical risks.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, prepare regular design reports and adapt to AECOM's project delivery procedures.
Required profile
- Engineering degree in civil, structural or a related discipline.
- More than 10 years of project management experience on complex infrastructure, ideally hydropower, pumped storage, dams, heavy civil, underground works or major conveyance systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams across multiple offices and time zones.
- Comfortable in design-build or fast-paced delivery environments with frequent interfaces and design changes.
- Solid fundamentals in schedule management, resource planning, cost awareness and change control.
- Technical depth to manage interfaces across civil, structural, geotech, hydraulics/hydrology and underground disciplines, including reviewing design criteria, assumptions and discipline reports.
- PMP certification is an added advantage; previous experience in the USA/Canada and ANZ regions is also an added advantage.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of digital delivery practices including BIM/CDE workflows, model-based coordination, drawing production and review cycles.
- Adaptation to AECOM's project delivery procedures and standards.
What we offer
- Benefits depending on employment status, which may include medical, dental, vision, life and disability benefits, paid time off, flexible work options, well-being resources, an employee assistance program, business travel insurance, a retirement savings plan and an employee stock purchase plan.
