Senior Traction Power Engineer

About the role

AECOM, a global infrastructure consulting firm, is looking for a Senior Traction Power Engineer in Madrid. The role covers the design of traction power systems and substations, from electrical studies and simulations through to technical reports, specifications and drawings, within a team of experts.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to design development, design risk and mitigation and value engineering for traction power systems and substations at every project stage.
• Develop electrical studies and collaborate in TPS simulations for system sizing, equipment location and main characteristics.
• Produce space-proofing designs, including cable routing.
• Write technical reports and specifications, liaise with BIM/CAD modellers for drawings, BoQ and other documentation.
• Ensure good design practice and compliance with standards such as CENELEC, ANSI and IEEE.
• Define interfaces with relevant parties, attend design team meetings and defend the design to the client or independent reviewers.
• Integrate the design into the project's System Engineering and System Assurance (SESA) process.

Required profile

• Electrical engineer with at least 7 years of proven experience in railway traction power.
• Ability to communicate and develop projects in English.
• Team player who can collaborate across disciplines and, when needed, lead a group of engineers.
• Leadership and ownership of design ideas and technical solutions.

Required skills

• Desirable: railway electrification (DC and AC), design, construction, test and commissioning and maintenance of electrical substations.
• Desirable: technical specifications of substation equipment, electrical calculations for traction substations, grounding and bonding networks, and protection design and commissioning.
• Desirable: distributed control systems at substation, remote control and centralised control centre levels.
• Desirable: CAD and BIM proficiency; other languages such as French or Italian.
