Freelance British Sign Language AI Trainer

About the role

We are seeking a British Sign Language (BSL) expert to help train advanced AI language models. This remote freelance position focuses on improving BSL-to-English translation, classifier usage, and visual linguistic nuances within AI systems.

Key responsibilities

• Engage with AI models on real‑world BSL communication scenarios and theoretical linguistic questions.
• Verify linguistic accuracy, cultural appropriateness, and capture detailed error traces.
• Document failure modes and suggest enhancements to prompt engineering and evaluation metrics.
• Provide reproducible examples of BSL expressions, facial markers, and spatial grammar for model training.

Required profile

• Fluent in British Sign Language with deep knowledge of Deaf culture, visual linguistics, BSL grammar, syntax, non‑manual markers, fingerspelling, and regional variations.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Deaf Studies, Sign Language Interpreting, Linguistics, or a related field.
• RID certification, teaching experience, or community interpreting projects are strong indicators of fit.
