About the role
Frontiers is an open-access publisher whose articles are peer-reviewed and freely available online. This Publishing Development Specialist role joins the Publishing Development team to help grow some of the youngest open-access journals in its portfolio. It is a highly entrepreneurial, relationship-driven position focused on creating momentum, building scientific communities and strengthening journal visibility and reputation.
Key responsibilities
- Reach out directly to researchers and editors to build new collaborations, launch dedicated article collections, recruit Editorial Board members and commission manuscripts.
- Create and run outreach strategies that increase journal visibility, attract high-quality submissions and strengthen engagement across research communities.
- Manage a dynamic sales pipeline, taking opportunities from first contact through to successful publication.
- Use AI tools daily to research prospects, personalise outreach and manage the pipeline more efficiently.
- Build long-term relationships with authors, editors and researchers.
- Represent the journals at scientific conferences, webinars and online events.
Required profile
- Solid experience in sales, outreach, business development or another target-driven environment, with a proven track record of achieving ambitious goals.
- Comfortable working with uncertainty and enjoying building new opportunities rather than following an established playbook.
- Strong influencing skills and ability to engage people who are not yet familiar with the products or initiatives represented.
- A strong grasp of AI-based tools in a business operations context.
- No research background required, but curiosity about science and interest in shaping growing research communities.
What we offer
- Extra wellbeing days on top of the annual leave allowance.
- Up to 3 paid volunteering days per year.
- 24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Programme covering wellbeing, mental health, legal and financial support.
- Learning and development support via the Frontiers Learning Hub.
- A locally relevant benefits package aligned to the country of residence, such as healthcare and pension/retirement provision where applicable.
- An office-first, collaboration-led culture with role-appropriate adjustments, and international teams.
