Senior Software Engineer (Rust) - Remote in the EU

About the role

Mirantis, a Kubernetes-native AI infrastructure company, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer who combines strong software architecture principles with an understanding of Datacenter Networking and DPU architectures. The role drives the development of control planes powering high-density, high-throughput infrastructure for AI training and inference workloads, within a T-shaped engineering team that builds cloud-native bare-metal orchestration platforms. The position is remote within the EU.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain production-grade control plane microservices, custom Kubernetes operators and reconciliation engines in Rust and Go.
• Write functional and non-functional requirements, architectural specs, sequence diagrams and gRPC/Protobuf and REST API schemas.
• Develop integration modules for network operating systems (SONiC, NVUE, Cumulus) and DPU hardware platforms.
• Instrument services end-to-end with OpenTelemetry traces and metrics and perform root-cause analysis across distributed systems.
• Participate in review-gated pull request workflows and ensure high test coverage through mock-driven testing.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience in cloud-native platforms or systems programming.
• Strong background in async concurrency, lock-free patterns, distributed state handling and mock-driven testing.
• Experience writing custom Kubernetes controllers/operators with CRD-driven reconciliation loops.
• Proven track record of architectural specs and cross-functional design reviews.

Required skills

• Rust (Tokio, Tonic, Axum, sqlx) and Go (secondary).
• gRPC/Protobuf contract design and schema evolution.
• OpenTelemetry instrumentation.
• Desired: advanced SQL / PostgreSQL, BGP, MP-BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, L3VNI, NVUE, SONiC, Cumulus Linux, NVUE client, NVIDIA DOCA, BlueField DPU, InfiniBand, RoCEv2, Linux kernel networking, CNI plugins, PXE/iPXE, UEFI, TPM, PKI/TLS, KubeVirt/KVM, Redfish/IPMI/BMC.
