Accountant - Finance Team

About the role

Sulzer is looking for an experienced Accountant to join its finance team in Spain, based in Rivas-Vaciamadrid (Madrid). It is a broad accounting position with exposure to several areas of finance, working closely with local operations, shared service teams, external advisors and international stakeholders. The role acts as a key link between the local business, external advisors, auditors and finance support teams.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting and ensure compliance with company policies and local regulations
• Process and review accounting transactions across finance areas
• Execute and monitor bank payments, transfers and treasury activities
• Support month-end and year-end closing, and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
• Coordinate tax activities and support VAT, Intrastat and other compliance requirements
• Organize documentation for external advisors and authorities, and support audits and statutory obligations
• Collaborate with shared service teams and help oversee reconciliations done by offshore support teams
• Liaise with public administrations and regulatory authorities when needed, and monitor corporate insurance requirements
• Identify improvements to financial processes, controls and efficiency

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field
• 2 to 3 years of experience in accounting, finance or a similar role
• Experience across multiple accounting areas, not just a highly specialized function
• Fluent English, able to communicate with international stakeholders by phone and in daily work
• Strong organization, autonomy, attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Required skills

• Practical exposure to VAT, Intrastat and tax documentation
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
• Experience supporting audits, financial reporting and compliance
• Preferred: SAP, shared service centers, treasury, payroll accounting and employee expense processes
