AI & Computer Vision Engineering Intern

About the role

HP Additive Manufacturing (HPAM) is looking for an AI & Computer Vision Engineering Intern in Sant Cugat del Valles. You will build an AI-powered visual inspection solution for 3D printed parts, working with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing and Data Science experts to automate print quality evaluation and defect detection. The internship runs from February to June-July 2027 and is open to students currently enrolled in a Spanish university.

Key responsibilities

• Design image acquisition strategies for 3D printed parts under controlled conditions
• Build a computer vision dataset, including collection, organization and annotation
• Develop computer vision and deep learning models to identify and classify defects such as porosity, bubbles, alignment issues and surface anomalies
• Evaluate classification, object detection and segmentation approaches
• Build preprocessing, augmentation and data preparation pipelines
• Analyse model performance and define validation methods and success metrics
• Work with quality and manufacturing experts to improve model accuracy
• Explore automated inspection workflows and document experiments and findings

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Master's in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Computer Vision, Robotics or a related field, with at least 12 months of study remaining
• Available to start in February 2027 and eligible to sign an internship agreement with your university
• Fluent English, spoken and written

Required skills

• Strong Python and machine learning, deep learning and computer vision fundamentals
• PyTorch and/or TensorFlow, and Tensorboard and/or MLFlow
• Git and collaborative development practices
• Preferred: image dataset preparation, OpenCV, YOLO/Faster R-CNN/DETR/U-Net/Mask R-CNN, Databricks, MLOps and model deployment
