AI Engineering Intern

About the role

HP Barcelona, a large R&D centre with more than 800 engineers, is looking for an AI Engineering Intern. The internship runs from February to June-July 2027, part-time (4 hours/day) or full-time (8 hours/day), and lasts 4 to 12 months. Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Spanish university, stay enrolled until the end of the internship, and be able to sign an internship agreement with their university.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse performance and refine processes with AI: use AI-assisted analysis and anomaly detection to check data accuracy, evaluate tool effectiveness and find patterns in operational data, then turn insights into process improvements validated against business needs.
• Work with cross-functional teams to identify high-value AI use cases, define requirements and integrate AI-enabled solutions into workflows with human oversight.
• Build a user-friendly, real-time monitoring tool that detects data anomalies, flags discrepancies between expected and actual results and prioritises issues for investigation.
• Provide clear alerts and explainable insights, validate AI outputs, protect sensitive data and monitor model performance.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or Industrial Engineering, with a focus on programming and data analytics.
• Fluent English, spoken and written.
• Analytical thinking, attention to detail, curiosity and strong collaboration skills.

Required skills

• Python for data analysis (pandas, NumPy) and SQL for querying and validating data.
• Understanding of statistics and machine learning basics, including anomaly detection and model evaluation.
• Familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Power BI is a plus.
• Exposure to AI-assisted development, APIs, Git and responsible AI practices is a plus.
