Aircraft Performance Engineer - External Performance Models (BADA / ANP)

About the role

Airbus Operations in Getafe (Madrid) is looking for an Aircraft Performance Engineer covering external performance models such as BADA and ANP. The role sits in the In-Flight Performance and Operations team within Airbus Engineering Aircraft Performance, which models, evaluates and simulates aircraft operational performance to optimise flight operations, safety and in-service support. The holder acts as the main owner and contact for external models, linking governance with technical validation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic governance for external partners (Eurocontrol, EASA) and internal stakeholders, managing queries, licensing, decision boards and improvement roadmaps.
• Design studies comparing external model outputs with Airbus reference data and quantify accuracy deviations.
• Develop and maintain internal automation tools in Python and scripting languages for model comparison and validation.
• Manage ANP dataset generation and validation for EASA and internal stakeholders.
• Monitor the wider ecosystem (TIM, Piano, OpenAP, EU Flight Label, EEA, CO2 calculators) for opportunities, risks and market intelligence.
• Create technical notes, usage guidelines and share best practices within Airbus teams.

Required profile

• Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• More than 3 years of professional experience in aircraft performance modelling or related engineering.
• Advanced English.
• Nice to have: familiarity with BADA, ANP, OpenAP or CO2 calculators.

Required skills

• Advanced Python or similar scripting languages for tool development.
• Troubleshooting autonomy and rigorous scientific data comparison.
• Project management, proactive escalation of technical alerts and clear communication of complex technical data.
