Job description
About the role
AstraZeneca is looking for an Associate Director for Global Regulatory Policy and Intelligence, based in Barcelona with an on-site commitment of three days a week. Fluency in English is required. The role turns evolving global regulations into decisions that help life-changing medicines reach patients earlier, connecting external policy signals to internal priorities and partnering with global, regional and functional leaders.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor, analyse and interpret emerging legislation, regulations, guidance, HTA developments and industry trends across priority markets, and translate them into implications, risks, opportunities and recommended actions.
- Assess policy developments beyond medicines regulators, including research, reimbursement, health information and public-private trial infrastructure.
- Lead or contribute to analyses on innovative clinical trial designs, real-world evidence, digital and AI tools, surrogate endpoints, rare-disease development and regulatory harmonisation.
- Support policy positions, consultation responses, advocacy materials, reports and presentations, and coordinate a consistent, evidence-based corporate voice.
- Support Calls for Comment and external consultations, and run complex regulatory intelligence queries for project teams and senior stakeholders.
- Identify and communicate emerging regulatory and policy risks and opportunities, and support participation in trade associations, professional networks and health authority engagements.
- Maintain relationships with health authorities, governments, trade associations and information providers, and contribute to regulatory intelligence systems and databases.
- Develop training and onboarding materials, and lead or contribute to matrixed projects and cross-functional working groups.
Required profile
- Degree in a scientific, medical, regulatory, public policy, legal, healthcare or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Early-career experience, internship, placement or demonstrated interest in regulatory affairs, regulatory intelligence, health policy or medicines development.
- Basic understanding of medicines development and the role of health authorities and regulatory agencies.
Required skills
- Structured research, assessment of information quality and clear written and verbal communication.
- Ability to summarise complex information for different audiences and to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Desirable: experience with regulatory intelligence databases, research tools, and preparing briefings, reports or consultation responses.
