Back End Node.js Developer

About the role

Fusion Consulting, a global Life Sciences business and IT consultancy, is looking for a detail-oriented, analytical Back End Node.js Developer to join its growing engineering team in Barcelona. You will design, develop and maintain robust server-side applications using Node.js, working with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and efficient solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain back-end services and APIs using Node.js and JavaScript, ensuring performance and reliability
• Design and implement database solutions, including schema design and query optimization
• Write clean, maintainable code following established coding standards and best practices
• Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver integrated solutions
• Conduct code reviews and give constructive feedback to maintain code quality
• Troubleshoot, debug and resolve technical issues systematically
• Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks to ensure application stability
• Take part in system architecture discussions and technical decision-making
• Monitor application performance and implement optimizations
• Document code, APIs and technical processes for team knowledge sharing

Required profile

• Production-level Node.js and JavaScript experience
• RESTful API design and implementation
• Relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL)
• Git version control
• Asynchronous programming and event-driven architecture
• Server-side frameworks such as Express.js or Fastify
• Software development best practices and design patterns

Preferred skills

• TypeScript, microservices and distributed systems
• Docker and CI/CD pipelines
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka)
• Testing frameworks, TDD, performance monitoring and logging tools
