About the role
Scotiabank is looking for a Chief Accountant & Comptroller to lead financial reporting for its Banking and Insurance operations in Trinidad and Tobago. The role is based in Port‑of‑Spain and reports to senior finance leadership, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee monthly and quarterly financial reporting, analysis and variance explanations for senior management and the Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS) Toronto.
- Manage the month‑end and quarter‑end close processes, including journal reviews and management reporting.
- Lead the year‑end reporting cycle, external audit coordination and preparation of IFRS‑compliant financial statements.
- Prepare quarterly tax computations and annual tax returns, ensuring statutory compliance.
- Produce statutory disclosures, notes and annual report sections in line with IFRS.
- Respond to ad‑hoc queries from BNS Toronto and provide accounting guidance across the organization.
- Assess the impact of new accounting standards and drive local implementation.
- Support special projects assigned by AGM Finance and the CFO Caribbean South.
Required profile
- Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Three to five years of post‑qualification experience in accounting, financial reporting or audit.
- Demonstrated ability to manage month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end processes.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and local statutory reporting requirements.
- Experience preparing tax computations and liaising with external auditors.
