Director, Software Engineering - Conferences Technology

About the role

Gartner is looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead the design, development and operation of its conference attendee-facing mobile and web platforms. The role combines strategic leadership, team architecture and capability building, and involves travelling up to 30 days a year to support Gartner's platinum conferences. Applications must be submitted in English and a valid EU visa or passport is required.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of attendee-facing mobile and web platforms, including architecture, roadmap prioritisation and quality assurance, with timely releases aligned to conference calendars.
• Partner with business stakeholders to define product strategy and set measurable success metrics for performance, user satisfaction and operational excellence.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies such as AI, advanced analytics and personalisation engines.
• Recruit, coach and develop a team of 15+ engineers, distribute leadership and decision-making, and expose engineers to real attendee needs and conference economics.
• Define product ownership boundaries, align teams to business outcomes and structure them for autonomy and end-to-end delivery.
• Work with Product and Program Directors, implement work visibility across product, program and platform levels, and communicate platform strategy to senior leadership.

Required profile

• 12+ years in software engineering, with at least 4-5 years in engineering leadership.
• 3+ years leading teams of 15+ engineers or managing large-scale product delivery.
• Proven experience with high-scale, mission-critical external-facing mobile and web platforms.
• Track record of delivering products on fixed timelines with cross-functional dependencies.
• Excellent communication, executive presence and stakeholder management skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 30 days per year.

Required skills

• Design of digital products with .NET (preferred), Python or Java.
• Deployment on cloud providers such as AWS (preferred) or Azure.
• Scalable system architecture and modern development practices.
