Electrical Design Engineer (HV Test Bench)

About the role

Airbus UpNext is recruiting an Electrical Design Engineer for a demonstrator project on aircraft electrification, focusing on High Voltage Electrical Systems. You will help design and set up a unique test facility from the ground up, exploring high-voltage technologies at their limits. The position is a limited fixed-term contract linked to the demonstrator's deliverable (completion estimated April 2028), reporting directly to the Technical Director.

Key responsibilities

• Design and specify industrial hardware for a high-voltage test bench, including AC/DC power supplies, dynamic load banks, switching matrices, energy storage systems, arc-flash and short-circuit injection systems.
• Design and specify high-bandwidth, isolated DAQ hardware, sensors and conditioning modules for high-voltage, high-current measurements in EMI environments.
• Draft purchaser technical specifications, evaluate supplier proposals and steer supplier milestones and deliverables.
• Contribute to installation, verification, commissioning and validation of power equipment and system interfaces, and support test data analysis and root cause investigations.
• Support electrical risk analysis, safety documentation and operational procedures for the test bench.
• Support electrical adaptation of R&T prototypes such as HV batteries, power converters and distribution systems.

Required profile

• 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in high-power electrical engineering, industrial power equipment specification and electrical bench/system integration, in aerospace, energy or electric transportation.
• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering.
• Fluent English; Spanish is a plus.
• Pragmatic, flexible, autonomous and safety-conscious mindset, comfortable in an agile, fast-paced environment.

Required skills

• Deep understanding of high-power equipment up to 1 MW: programmable AC/DC power sources, electronic loads, switching matrices, power converters, power cyclators.
• Track record of steering suppliers through manufacturing and acceptance, and drafting purchaser technical specifications.
• Knowledge of R&T electrical prototypes (batteries, distribution units, converters) and power measurement instrumentation is a strong plus.
