Engineering Manager, Web Data Acquisition
NielsenIQ · Madrid
Job description
About the role
NielsenIQ is a global consumer intelligence company whose web data acquisition capabilities collect and transform public digital-commerce data. The Engineering Manager, Web Data Acquisition leads an Europe-based engineering team responsible for building, operating and improving scalable web-scraping capabilities. Reporting to a Senior Manager or Director, the role combines people leadership, technical delivery, operational ownership and cross-functional execution, and is accountable for the performance and development of individual contributors in Europe.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Europe team: manage, coach and develop engineers and associates, build an inclusive, high-trust culture, plan capacity, hiring, onboarding, succession and workload allocation, and set priorities, decision rights and escalation paths.
- Own scraping engineering delivery: lead the design, implementation, testing, deployment and maintenance of web scrapers and supporting services, ensuring reliable acquisition of retailer and marketplace data despite changing websites and anti-bot defenses.
- Drive engineering and operational excellence: establish standards for code quality, reviews, testing, observability, documentation and security, and improve automation, monitoring, alerting and failure diagnosis.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Operations, Customer Success and delivery teams, and communicate delivery health, risks and trade-offs to senior stakeholders.
Required profile
- Experience managing software engineers or data-engineering professionals, including goal setting, coaching and performance management.
- Strong software-engineering background delivering production systems in a modern language such as Python, Java, C# or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience with web scraping, browser automation, crawling, data pipelines, distributed systems or high-volume data collection.
- Ability to lead delivery under ambiguous requirements, operational pressure and competing priorities, and strong communication skills with non-specialists.
- Experience with cross-functional and geographically distributed stakeholders.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of HTTP, HTML/DOM, APIs, proxies, browser behavior, monitoring and incident response.
- Preferred: retailer, marketplace or digital-commerce data, cloud-based services, anti-bot techniques, headless browsers, scraper observability, data-quality controls and team operating rhythm improvement.
What we offer
- Flexible working environment.
- Volunteer time off.
- LinkedIn Learning.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
