Financial Lines Manager

About the role

Starr, a global leader in commercial insurance with over a century of expertise, is looking for a Financial Lines Manager. The role covers underwriting, submission management and binding, portfolio and reinsurance oversight, and leading a team of underwriters, with a focus on the Iberian market.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite profitable business according to business plans, rating tools and guidelines, and obtain sign-off on business beyond agreed authority or below rating guidelines.
• Ensure underwriting documentation, policy wordings and clauses, and account certainty at binding meet Starr's standards.
• Log bound, quoted, working and declined risks, follow up outstanding quotes and renewals with brokers, and prepare files for peer review.
• Conduct quality assurance within 2 working days of binding, and post-peer review within 5 working days if pre-binding review was not done.
• Reconcile premiums due versus received to manage credit control.
• Work with the Regional Manager and the Underwriting Committee to develop the underwriting strategy, monitor premiums versus budget and support the casualty business strategy.
• Manage joint venture aggregations, provide data to the reinsurance strategy, attend reinsurer meetings and monitor reinsurance coverage.
• Recruit, onboard and train underwriters, set their authority levels, and manage team performance and development.

Required profile

• 10-15 years' experience.
• Advanced knowledge of a specific class of business, market wordings and clauses, and reinsurance practices.
• Fluent written and spoken English; university degree level.
