Java Backend Engineer (Full Stack, f/m/d)

About the role

Julius Baer is looking for a Java Backend Engineer to join its team in Madrid. You will help develop, enhance and maintain a business-critical enterprise platform built on Java/Jakarta EE technologies, working closely with Technical Leads, Product Owners, QA engineers and other development teams. The role spans backend and frontend domains, and the ideal candidate is comfortable working across the full technology stack.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend applications with Java 21, Jakarta EE, JPA/Hibernate and Maven.
• Design and implement REST APIs and integrate with internal and external systems.
• Contribute to enterprise integrations using SOAP, JMS and messaging technologies.
• Work with Product Owners, Business Analysts and Architects to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Build database functionality with Oracle, including data modelling and query optimisation.
• Write clean, maintainable and testable code, and create unit and integration tests.
• Troubleshoot defects, performance issues and production incidents, and support monitoring, observability and continuous improvement.
• Support deployment, testing and release activities across development and test environments.

Required profile

• Strong hands-on Java experience and object-oriented programming.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Working knowledge of Oracle, SQL and data persistence.
• Understanding of design patterns and clean coding practices.
• Experience with automated testing (JUnit, Mockito).
• Familiarity with source control and collaborative workflows; agile teamwork.
• Ability to work across backend and frontend domains in a full-stack capacity.
