Junior Software Engineer – Open‑Source AI for Global Health

About the role

Ersilia, a non‑profit building open‑source AI/ML tools for infectious disease research, is looking for a Junior Software Engineer. You will join a small, mission‑driven technical team and work primarily on the Ersilia Model Hub, an open‑source platform that enables researchers in low‑resource settings to run AI‑driven drug discovery models.

Key responsibilities

• Implement new features and fix bugs on the Ersilia Model Hub under the guidance of the Lead Software Engineer.
• Integrate, maintain, and test machine‑learning models to ensure they run correctly on the platform.
• Write clean, well‑documented, and tested Python code.
• Track issues and progress using GitHub Projects.
• Collaborate with data scientists, biomedical researchers, and external partners in weekly meetings.
• Assist with end‑user documentation and support the open‑source community by preparing GitHub issues for contributors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or final‑year student) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics or a related field.
• Strong interest in open‑source development, AI/ML, and global health.
• Clear communicator in English, team‑oriented and eager to learn.
• Based in Barcelona or willing to relocate by August 2026.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Git and collaborative development workflows (pull requests, code review).
• Basic understanding of machine‑learning concepts.
