Job description
About the role
GE Vernova's Controls & Operability team is looking for a Lead Controls Engineer with demonstrated wind turbine controls expertise. This is a global engineering role covering the design, implementation and validation of turbine control features that meet product safety, performance and grid compliance. The engineer develops, implements and validates the control algorithms that balance performance, mechanical load reduction, grid compliance and availability across an installed fleet operating globally.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and enhance turbine control algorithms that improve performance, reduce mechanical loading, meet grid compliance and maintain high availability.
- Implement and validate algorithms in the loads simulation environment and on the GE MarkVIe PLC.
- Analyse complex controls issues across the installed fleet and work with the Loads and Validation teams to assess the impact of control strategy changes on mechanical loading.
- Contribute to wind turbine controls from requirements definition through design, development, validation and lifecycle support.
- Prepare and present technical analyses, reports and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
Required profile
- Significant experience in wind turbine controls engineering.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Ability to work independently on complex algorithm development while collaborating across loads, validation and product teams in a global environment.
- Preferred: advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in controls, wind energy or system dynamics; track record of contributing to invention disclosure letters or patent applications.
Required skills
- Solid understanding of classical control theory (transfer functions, frequency domain design) and modern methods (state-space, optimal control).
- Model-based design of control systems.
- MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent modelling and simulation tools.
- State estimation techniques such as EKF (Extended Kalman Filter).
- Real-time control systems, including the GE MarkVIe platform.
- Coding ability in at least one programming language such as C.
- Knowledge of wind turbine product architecture, loads behaviour and grid market dynamics including renewable integration and ancillary services.
What we offer
- Varied, competitive benefits for high performers.
- Investment in on-the-job learning and development and a clear path for career growth.
- Relocation assistance provided.
