Lead Doctor – Travel Assistance

About the role

The Lead Doctor for Travel Assistance heads the Barcelona medical team that provides 24/7 medical support to AXA customers worldwide. Acting as the local clinical expert, you will oversee complex medical cases, guide nurses and doctors, and ensure high‑quality care throughout the travel assistance process.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the medical team, ensuring 24/7 coverage, productivity, and adherence to international assistance procedures.
• Supervise case reviews, act as the primary decision‑maker for complex medical situations, and validate on‑call escorts and equipment.
• Guarantee patients receive care at the highest standard, monitor service quality, and identify training needs.
• Directly manage complex assistance cases, advise on repatriation plans, and provide reassurance and medical advice to patients, relatives, and travel companions.
• Coordinate with operational teams, maintain accurate medical records, and facilitate seamless communication between medical and operational functions.
• Support clinical governance, drive continuous service improvements, and participate in escalation processes and crisis cells.

Required profile

• Medical Doctor with extensive experience in international travel assistance or similar emergency medical services.
• Proven leadership skills managing multidisciplinary medical teams.
• Strong clinical decision‑making ability for complex cases and repatriation scenarios.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with internal teams, customers, and external partners.
