Machine Learning Scientist II

About the role

Expedia Group B2B is looking for a Machine Learning Scientist II to join its Machine Learning Science team. You will build end-to-end ML solutions for personalized recommendations, learning to rank and relevance optimization, which are core capabilities that drive value for partners and Expedia Group. The role suits someone with a solid foundation in machine learning and engineering who is comfortable with ambiguity and enjoys open-ended problems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement ML models for recommendations and relevance at scale, handling high-throughput, low-latency personalized recommendations across partner segments.
• Contribute to end-to-end ML solutions, from data preprocessing to production deployment.
• Design and run A/B tests and experiments to improve algorithm performance.
• Stay current with the latest ML techniques and contribute to the team's technical capabilities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to turn business needs into technical solutions.
• Communicate methodologies and results clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and work across the tech stack to deploy models.

Required profile

• Ph.D. (preferred) or master's degree in computer science, machine learning, mathematics/statistics or a related field.
• 2 years of industry experience applying ML to real-world problems desirable but not required.
• Solid understanding of common machine learning algorithms and knowledge of statistics and probability theory.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python, with PySpark and libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow and Keras.
• Familiarity with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP).

• Total cash range in Madrid of 43,000 to 60,500 EUR, with potential to reach 69,000 EUR based on sustained performance.
