Management Accountant – FP&A

About the role

A global education group with more than 20 schools across Europe, Asia and Latin America is expanding its central finance function in Madrid and is looking for a Management Accountant to join its FP&A team. The role supports the preparation and consolidation of monthly management accounts, analyses financial performance against budgets and forecasts, and ensures consistent reporting across the international school portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Support the central finance function through the group management accounts cycle, reporting to the Head of FP&A and building strong relationships with school finance leads.
• Prepare consolidated monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and supporting schedules) using agreed group conventions such as FX rates and consolidation adjustments.
• Carry out variance analysis comparing actuals to budget, forecast and prior periods, with commentary on key drivers.
• Run month-end reviews of school submissions, check arithmetic and consistency, and follow up on anomalies with school finance leads.
• Help build documented management accounts processes, controls and a consistent month-end review checklist.
• Maintain accurate, well-documented working files and quality control checks, and act as first point of contact for schools on accounts queries.
• Work with the Financial Accountant and wider accounting team on the statutory accounts that feed into management accounts, and support the Head of FP&A in preparing materials for the CFO.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant or finalist (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with experience in management accounting or financial reporting, ideally in a multi-entity or international environment.
• Sound understanding of management accounting principles, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow preparation, variance analysis and consolidation.
• Conscientious, accurate, and able to take ownership of deliverables under reporting deadlines.
• Confident communicator, fluent in English; additional languages are an advantage.
• Experience in K-12 or international schools is an advantage but not required.

Required skills

• Competent Excel skills, with experience working with templates and processes across multiple teams or entities.
• Knowledge of consolidation and variance analysis.
