Mass Properties Engineer (Military Derivatives)

About the role

A Mass Properties Engineer position is open within Airbus Defence & Space in Getafe (Madrid), joining the Flight Physics Department. The engineer works on military derivatives, in a transnational team between Spain and Germany, and contributes to the development of new vehicles, the operational support of in-service vehicles and their decommissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Define mass status, target mass and route to target, and monitor and report mass throughout the vehicle life cycle through estimations, calculations, accounting and weight control.
• Validate mass by weighing.
• Collaborate with technical disciplines to understand and challenge the vehicle design in the quest for optimum mass.
• Deliver mass models for loads analyses and perform trade studies, benchmarking and competitor analyses.
• Support Chief Engineering and Program decisions, and contribute to design reviews, weight maturity reviews, weight savings and mass risk and opportunity tracking.
• Support marketing on customer guarantees and vehicle deliveries, including load ability, weight and balance.
• Develop capabilities and processes to improve time, quality and cost delivery, and build mass properties competence across Combat and Military Transport products.

Required profile

• Degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
• 0-5 years of experience; flight physics or structural design and mass properties experience is highly valued.
• Advanced English; German is valuable.
• Ability to work independently, communicate well and adapt to a new way of working.
