Operability Monitoring Engineer
gevernova · Barcelona
Job description
About the role
The Operability Monitoring Engineer acts as a Lead Monitoring Engineer on the Electrical, Controls and Operability (EC&O) Monitoring Team. The role carries out proactive operability monitoring and diagnostic assessments across the fleet, detecting performance-limiting behaviour and system interactions early and turning data into clear, actionable recommendations. It supports the team's mission to detect, diagnose and communicate abnormal electrical, controls and system-level behaviour before it becomes an outage, repeat event or sustained performance loss.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and run operability monitoring methods and diagnostic assessments for high-impact issues such as abnormal operating envelopes, curtailment interactions, nuisance constraints and fleet-wide performance patterns.
- Monitor turbine operability proactively using SCADA trends, events, alarms, wind and operating context, and fleet performance data.
- Improve operability indicators, thresholds and detection logic for assigned performance and availability risk modes.
- Perform deep diagnostics on abnormal patterns, intermittent behaviour and system interactions that limit productivity or reliability.
- Distinguish actionable operability risk from normal variation and non-critical anomalies, and turn findings into practical recommendations and troubleshooting directions.
- Work with senior team members and cross-functional partners in Services, Systems Engineering, Electrical and Controls Engineering, Fleet Reliability, Root Cause Analysis and Fleet Performance.
- Help standardise monitoring documentation, issue classification and technical communication, and share lessons learned to improve team methods.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace or Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in wind turbine performance, operations engineering, reliability or fleet diagnostics.
- Strong understanding of wind turbine operating behaviour, performance drivers and system interactions.
- Experience diagnosing fleet performance and operability issues from time-series and event data.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, able to influence cross-functional action.
Required skills
- Hands-on use of SCADA trends, event logs and performance data.
- Data literacy and strong analytical skills.
- Desired: Python, SQL or equivalent tools; experience with fleet dashboards, triage workflows and issue prioritisation; familiarity with reliability and root cause processes.
What we offer
- Relocation assistance provided.
