Platform Engineer (Multi-cloud and Edge)

About the role

Holcim is looking for a Platform Engineer in Madrid to deliver a multi-cloud and edge platform on which its business products are developed and run, at enterprise quality and startup efficiency. The goal is to let product teams build, deploy and operate independently on infrastructure that is secure, reliable, compliant and cost-effective. The role sits within Group IT, working closely with product teams, corporate security, legal and data privacy, finance and regional and global IT.

Key responsibilities

• Provision and manage cloud and edge infrastructure end to end as code (networking, compute, storage, databases, identity, secrets).
• Develop and extend the in-house platform framework: policy enforcement, safety gates, dry-run control, state verification and immutable audit evidence.
• Build self-service interfaces so product teams can provision and configure their own resources without tickets.
• Design network, identity and access, and security architectures, and evaluate and maintain the cloud technology stack.
• Operate the services, lead incident response, maintain monitoring, logging, tracing and alerting, and plan preventive maintenance and patching.
• Manage platform costs, including sizing, optimisation and cost reporting per product.
• Act as technical contact for product teams, onboard them and resolve platform-side integration issues.
• Maintain engineering standards, runbooks, playbooks and documentation, and support audit and compliance evidence (GDPR, NIS2, ISO 27001).

• Experienced engineers who focus on results rather than tasks, with a professional standard assessed during selection and annual review.
• Delivers a predictable volume of work, reduces team workload through simplification and automation, and fixes root causes in code and configuration.
• Works to documented standards, applies established practice (infrastructure as code, peer review, least privilege) and proposes improvements within Holcim's standards framework.
• Plans proactively, estimates against real capacity and raises risks early; owns outcomes and communicates facts early.
