Product Owner, Omics & Data Platforms
astrazeneca · Barcelona
Job description
About the role
AstraZeneca's cancer and translational scientists rely on a chain of omics platforms, from sample metadata management to single-cell and spatial analytics. This in-office role in Barcelona requires a minimum of three days per week on site, with no remote or travel flexibility. The Product Owner owns the roadmap, vendor relationships and quality of several platforms, starting with the cancer genomics portal and the single-cell and spatial analytics tools, while keeping the whole sample-to-insight chain running.
Key responsibilities
- Own the roadmap and backlog for the cancer genomics portal and single-cell and spatial analytics platforms, prioritising work with engineering and vendor partners.
- Support the owners of the other platforms in the chain and maintain a record of each platform's users, usage, cost and risks.
- Manage relationships with commercial vendors and open-source partners, track delivery against scope, and prepare cases for license renewals and changes, working with procurement and finance.
- Ensure platforms meet service levels, and handle incidents, releases and upgrades with engineering and support teams.
- Run access, onboarding and training for users in different regions, collect feedback and plan regional deployments or instances.
- Apply FAIR data principles and metadata standards, define governed interfaces for AI agents, and resolve ownership gaps such as sample identifiers.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy, access approval and data residency requirements, including controls for human-derived data, and complete governance and AI reviews.
- Track infrastructure, license and contractor costs against plan and contribute to planning cycles.
Required profile
- 5+ years of experience with or managing omics data platforms or bioinformatics tools, ideally in a pharmaceutical or translational research setting.
- Experience as a product owner or product manager, or in a role with equivalent ownership of a scientific platform.
- Understanding of genomic, transcriptomic, single-cell and spatial data and how scientists use it.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, licences and renewals, including with procurement.
- Fluency with FAIR data principles and metadata standards.
- Ability to communicate with both scientists and engineers.
Desirable
- Experience with open-source scientific software and its communities.
- Familiarity with AI agents and how they connect to scientific data.
- Experience with oncology data.
- Working knowledge of Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence).
