Rigger

About the role

Ubisoft Barcelona, part of Ubisoft's international network of production studios, is looking for a Rigger. The rigger bridges the needs of modellers and animators to maximise efficiency of rigging (joints and bones) and skinning (skin and clothes meshing), and works closely with the technical director to create the tools animators will need.

Key responsibilities

• Rig and skin characters based on models provided by character modelers, to the needs of animators, technical directors and art directors.
• Adjust the skeleton whenever necessary.
• Create and use tools that improve animation quality and effectiveness, integrate them into the game engine with the animation TD and judge whether they are worth implementing.
• Coach modelers on adapting their work to the animation and the art director's vision.
• Configure ragdolls and suggest in-game softbody configurations, resolving issues so movement looks realistic.
• Help set expectations with the art director by showing the impact of their vision, and follow the project naming convention and selection sets in master scenes.
• Maintain artistic standards in rigging and skinning results and carry out other related tasks.

Required profile

• 2-3 years' experience in video game modelling and/or animation or other relevant experience.
• College diploma in 3D technical animation for video games or equivalent.
• Extensive anatomical knowledge.

Required skills

• Knowledge of controllers and/or Max Script and/or Python and/or Motion Builder.
• Knowledge of IK and optimal pivot point placement.
• Extensive knowledge of Character Studio/biped.
• Basic knowledge of animation and modelling, and knowledge of the game pipeline.
