Senior Data Engineer (SQL, Data Pipelines, BI Support)

About the role

Julius Baer is hiring a Senior Data Engineer (100%, f/m/d) in Madrid. The role centres on building and optimising SQL-driven data transformations that support analytical, operational and regulatory reporting needs. Experience in banking or financial environments is a strong advantage.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and optimise complex SQL transformations for analytics, reporting and financial/regulatory needs
• Work with and extend enterprise data models such as Data Vault, dimensional, 3NF and domain-driven structures
• Keep SQL logic performant, maintainable and documented, with data quality checks, validation rules and testing
• Build and maintain SQL-centric ETL/ELT pipelines, using Python where useful for automation and API integration
• Support ingestion of batch, incremental and near real-time data, with monitoring and observability
• Help BI users with dataset structuring, data preparation and dashboard troubleshooting
• Partner with finance, risk, compliance and business teams, and with data architects, to turn requirements into data solutions
• Follow engineering best practices: version control, documentation, testing and code quality

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field
• 5+ years in data engineering or SQL-heavy backend roles
• Proven experience with structured enterprise data models
• Fluent English, written and spoken
• Nice to have: experience with Temenos T24/Transact or similar core banking platforms

Required skills

• Expert-level SQL, including complex queries, tuning and optimisation
• Python is a strong plus
• Tableau, Power BI or other BI tools are a strong plus
• Experience in banking, financial services or regulated environments is a strong advantage
