Job description
About the role
The Senior Fleet Performance Engineer - YAW Mechanical is the technical authority for fleet performance, resolving the most complex, mission-critical turbine performance issues. The role leads high-level technical investigations, defines troubleshooting methodologies and influences the long-term reliability of the turbine fleet, sitting at the intersection of field operations, system design and services.
Key responsibilities
- Resolve the most challenging technical escalations with definitive troubleshooting strategies and engineering solutions that balance immediate fixes with long-term fleet health.
- Evaluate turbine YAW subsystem interactions holistically and guide design modifications or operational changes affecting fleet-wide performance and reliability.
- Lead complex Trend&Improvement (T&I) 8Ds root cause analyses, develop and validate hypotheses with data, modelling and physical evidence, and present findings and mitigations to senior stakeholders and customers.
- Define technical standards for troubleshooting and case resolution, and author technical bulletins, playbooks and best-practice guides.
- Analyse fleet performance data to forecast reliability trends and proactively identify emerging risks.
- Act as the lead technical point of contact for Product Engineering and R&D teams, so field insights inform future turbine design and services.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, conduct technical peer reviews and share specialised knowledge.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent knowledge and experience in electromechanical service or fleet engineering.
- Proven experience in wind turbine reliability, YAW systems, fleet performance or advanced services engineering.
- Deep expertise in turbine controls, hydraulic and yaw systems, yaw loads and mechanical fatigue analysis.
- Demonstrated mastery of formal 8Ds root cause analysis and reliability engineering principles.
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders without direct management authority, and to turn complex technical data into executive recommendations and customer-facing communication.
- Preferred: significant experience with fleet performance, yaw and drive systems reliability, MRO processes, customer-facing resolution meetings, published technical papers or patents, and ability to climb wind turbines and travel more than 20% of the time.
