Senior Mechanical Engineer - Wind Turbine Yaw Subsystem

About the role

GE Vernova's Wind Global Machine Head Yaw subsystem team is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Barcelona. The role covers hardware ownership of mechanical rotating components for utility-scale wind turbines, mainly supporting hydraulic and passive mechanical braking systems from conceptual design through detailed design, testing, qualification, manufacturing and installed fleet support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead projects for new products, new technologies and field issues, with a focus on quality and reliability verified by physical testing
• Design yaw system components such as hydraulic pressure units, yaw bearings, yaw drives and yaw brakes, including system interaction and reliability
• Own lessons learned, best practices and standardization in design documentation such as drawings and technical specifications
• Develop testing and validation plans to prove component function and reliability
• Deliver innovative designs meeting tight timing, cost and reliability targets, and ensure quality of drawings, BoMs and specifications
• Work with quality, manufacturing, sourcing, suppliers and field support to improve quality and first-time yield
• Support manufacturing, sourcing and the field with issue resolution and corrective actions (NCR, SDR, PAC)
• Carry out root cause analysis of field failures and drive cost-saving initiatives and advanced technology adoption

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's degree desired
• Extensive mechanical analysis and design experience in industry
• Fluent written and spoken English; able to travel up to 10%
• Proven ability to lead global projects and work under pressure
• Desire and ability to drive improvement and change

Required skills

• Technical drawings, GD&T and manufacturing knowledge
• 3D-CAD tools such as Unigraphics / Siemens NX
• Ansys or other finite element analysis tools (desired)
• System design, DFMEA and design for manufacturability (desired)
