Senior Project Finance Controller

About the role

ICF, a global consultancy helping governments, public agencies and international institutions solve complex problems, is looking for a Senior Project Finance Controller to join its Europe & Asia Business Management team in Madrid on a permanent basis. The role drives the financial performance of ICF's activities through project financial management, reporting, compliance and support to project managers.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, analyse and interpret project financial performance with Project Managers and Directors, and present monthly performance, risks and opportunities to Senior Leadership.
• Run project re-forecasting and cost-to-complete reviews and provide variance analysis and recommendations.
• Set up projects in the ERP system according to contracts, SOX regulations and internal controls, and maintain project financial data through the project lifecycle.
• Ensure correct revenue recognition under accounting standards and prepare management information packages covering revenue, costs, margins and commentary.
• Prepare client billing, monitor aged debts with Treasury, contribute to cash flow estimates and calculate monthly accruals for subcontractors and freelancers.
• Support month-end close, including reconciliations and financial reports.
• Lead or take part in project financial reviews, train Project Managers on financial governance, and support internal and external audits.
• Help develop financial controls, checklists and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• MBA, M.Com, CMA or equivalent finance qualification.
• 4-5 years of experience in project finance, project controllership or financial project administration in service or consultancy environments.
• Experience in a matrix organisation across Europe, Asia and India.
• Right to work in Spain or eligibility for case-by-case sponsorship, and physically present in Spain on day 1.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of revenue recognition principles (ASC 606, IFRS, US GAAP).
• Advanced MS Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, modelling) and MS PowerPoint; Power BI is an advantage.
• Experienced user of financial/ERP systems (Maconomy strongly preferred or quick learner).
• Numerical accuracy, analytical skills and stakeholder management.
