Senior Software Engineer - AI Product Development

About the role

Clarivate is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its Cortellis CMC team in Barcelona and help build the next generation of AI-powered solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. You will design, develop and operate scalable backend services, data pipelines and AI-driven capabilities behind regulatory intelligence products used by global life sciences organisations. The team has 6 engineers working across backend, frontend and quality assurance, in an Agile setting.

Key responsibilities

• Build and run generative and agent-based AI capabilities, including model integration, feature development and iterative improvements.
• Analyse and improve data and retrieval systems supporting AI features, focusing on performance, reliability and scalability.
• Integrate AI capabilities into production services and APIs while meeting security and quality standards.
• Design, develop and maintain Java backend services and APIs in a microservices architecture.
• Build scalable, secure solutions with TypeScript and Node.js (NestJS).
• Deploy and operate cloud-native applications on AWS using Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Write clean, tested and documented code, troubleshoot and optimise existing systems, and collaborate with frontend, QA, DevOps and product teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience on backend systems with TypeScript and Node.js (NestJS).
• 5+ years designing and maintaining scalable backend services and RESTful APIs.
• 5+ years working with microservices and distributed architecture.
• Experience building and delivering production-grade software, including AI-powered product capabilities.

Required skills

• Relational databases such as PostgreSQL and search technologies such as Elasticsearch.
• Cloud environments (AWS preferred); Java and Django are a plus.
