Senior Statistical Programmer

About the role

AstraZeneca is looking for a Senior Statistical Programmer, a delivery-focused role responsible for programming deliverables with quality and timeliness, following established standards and processes. The position requires high technical skills and thorough industry knowledge to perform programming tasks independently, with judgement about when to seek guidance in complex situations. The role can lead the programming of clinical studies or small to medium-sized clinical projects and lead cross-functional teams toward continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the programming deliveries of a clinical study or a small to medium-sized, complex clinical project
• Implement the statistical programming aspects of the protocol or clinical development program
• Ensure high quality in own deliverables and in the work of other programmers
• Program independently with high efficiency and quality
• Write specifications and oversee the completeness of relevant documentation
• Contribute to or drive the development of best practices to improve quality, efficiency and effectiveness
• Ensure compliance with standards and automation usage
• Plan and lead team activities and tasks
• Identify, manage and communicate risk within assigned studies and projects
• Work with the statistician, lead programmer, data manager and study leader, and with contract programming providers
• Influence stakeholders through subject-matter expertise and contribute to or lead technical initiatives

Required profile

• Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Life Sciences or equivalent
• Proficient knowledge of the clinical development process
• Thorough knowledge of industry standards
• Ability to manage relevant documentation and to influence stakeholders on programming matters
• Excellent programming skills, including macro language
• Desirable: ability to proactively manage concurrent activities within a study or part of a project
