Spain Design Lead (12 Month Contract)

About the role

Canva is hiring a Spain Design Lead for a 12-month contract with full-time hours, working from a hybrid base in Madrid (2-3 days per week in the office). The role heads the creative direction, production and curation of locally relevant content across templates and elements for the Spanish market, partnering with the Content Strategy Lead and cross-functional stakeholders to drive engagement, adoption and revenue growth. It sits within the International Content Team, which builds a globally valued content library of templates and elements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the creative vision that delivers the country content strategy and work with local Marketing, SEO and Community teams to turn regional strategy into locally relevant campaigns.
• Oversee content creation, including design kits, campaign documents and creator briefs, and work with freelance copywriters and AI copy to keep copy culturally relevant.
• Curate and editorially frame content for marketing initiatives, seasonal calendars and showcases, and lead quality control against brand guidelines.
• Build and maintain knowledge of local culture, consumer behaviour and design trends, and conduct content research and audits to identify gaps and opportunities.
• Monitor content performance, run retrospectives and raise issues affecting content visibility.
• Partner with the Country Content Strategy Lead, SEO, Marketing and Country Managers, and lead the rollout of local partnership content.
• Analyse competitors' activity and creative trends to inform the content roadmap.
• Manage local freelance designers, overseeing recruitment, briefing, output review and development.
