Senior Data Scientist – Insights

About the role

Preply is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to drive insights that shape product strategy and growth. You will work within a cross‑functional squad, partnering with product managers, engineers and designers to turn data into actionable recommendations. The role focuses on understanding user behavior, marketplace economics and the impact of new features.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a deep understanding of product dynamics, user behavior and marketplace economics.
• Continuously improve the platform by gathering and analyzing data to uncover valuable insights.
• Analyze customer behavior and product usage to inform retention strategies and communicate findings to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Quantify and model the impact of new product features, identifying growth opportunities and influencing the product roadmap.
• Define key performance indicators, tracking events and engagement metrics aligned with business goals.
• Design, execute and evaluate large‑scale experiments to test ideas and measure business outcomes.
• Build strong relationships with data and technical leaders to foster collaboration across teams.

Required profile

• Experience in data analytics working with product teams and uncovering optimization opportunities.
• Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests with solid statistical knowledge.
• Strong understanding of conversion, LTV, cohort analysis, retention and related concepts.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python, with ability to write efficient, scalable code.
• Curiosity, problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, proactively addressing challenges.
• Ability to craft compelling data stories and communicate complex insights clearly.
• Interest in influencing product roadmap and strategy.

Required skills

• Background in two‑sided marketplaces or digital businesses.
• Experience with product analytics tools such as Amplitude, Mixpanel or Heap.
• Familiarity with machine‑learning techniques for user behavior prediction or recommendations.
• Proficiency with data‑visualisation tools like Tableau, Looker or Power BI.
• Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative field.
• Previous experience mentoring or coaching colleagues.
