Assistant Sommelier

About the role

The Assistant Sommelier at Four Seasons Hotel Madrid supports the sommeliers team in delivering an exceptional wine experience to guests through knowledgeable wine service, personalized recommendations and operational support. The role reports to the Head Sommelier and Assistant Head Sommelier and helps maintain the wine program, manage inventory, support team training and uphold high service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver personalized wine service, engaging guests and showing knowledge of wines, spirits, beverages and menu offerings.
• Assist guests with wine selections and recommendations under the guidance of the Head Sommelier.
• Support daily wine service operations so wine is served according to established standards and procedures.
• Maintain regular contact with the wine storeroom to ensure product availability, accurate vintages and appropriate stock levels.
• Help achieve wine revenue goals through guest engagement and upselling.
• Support the Head Sommelier in wine training sessions and share wine knowledge with the restaurant team.
• Help maintain and organize the wine cellar, inventory and stock controls.
• Work with the culinary and service teams on wine pairing recommendations.
• Keep wine service flowing smoothly during busy periods and help colleagues when needed.
• Follow health, safety, hygiene and company policies.

Required profile

• WSET Level 2 required; WSET Level 3 or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience as a Sommelier, Assistant Sommelier or similar wine-focused role in a luxury hotel or fine dining setting.
• Fluent English and Spanish.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of wine regions, grape varieties and food and wine pairing.
• Excellent communication and guest engagement skills.
• Strong organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment while keeping service standards high.
