DevOps Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

Roche is looking for a DevOps Infrastructure Engineer in Madrid who takes ownership of technical initiatives and builds, optimises and maintains end-to-end lifecycle processes and workflow orchestrations. The role involves developing custom operational tooling, managing infrastructure as code for large workloads, and ensuring robust security, monitoring and logging practices. It also includes mentoring junior team members.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of ambiguous topics and drive small to medium initiatives, owning decisions that involve risk
• Build, harden and maintain end-to-end lifecycle processes and orchestrations, and develop custom internal tooling and self-service abstractions
• Manage infrastructure using IaC principles and implement strong security and monitoring practices
• Troubleshoot complex issues across distributed environments and coordinate across teams
• Communicate with stakeholders and understand how technical components fit into product strategy and developer experience
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge internally and externally (e.g. DevOps Days, tech talks)
• Align personal and team development with global strategy and take part in initiatives beyond the regular project scope

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience managing large workloads, complex workflow orchestrations and end-to-end platform lifecycles in production
• Proven track record of mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across groups
• Experience spotting gaps in Agile and DevOps practices and applying external best practices
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with a proactive, developer-first mindset

Required skills

• Stateful workflow orchestration engines, with direct experience or strong familiarity with Temporal.io (or similar such as Cadence)
• Advanced knowledge of at least one programming language (Python, Go, Ruby, Rust, JavaScript) and Bash/PowerShell scripting
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, CDK), advanced Docker, Git and CI/CD platforms (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
• Monitoring, logging, metrics and tracing tools (Datadog, Elastic Stack, Grafana, Jaeger)
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Linux (Ubuntu/Debian, SUSE, RHEL) are a strong plus
