Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer (Military Derivatives)

About the role

A Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer position is open at Airbus Defence and Space in Getafe (Madrid). The engineer joins the Flight Tests Instrumentation Architecture & Equipment Team, which provides flight test means to collect critical data from aircraft test objects. The role covers the full life cycle of Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) installations for the Airbus Derivatives (MRTT) program, from conception and equipment integration to final deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and define FTI installations on flight test aircraft, analysing requirements to specify complete FTI systems (hardware, software and digital systems).
• Prepare and document technical FTI documentation for Aircraft Installation Design Offices and FTI laboratory facilities, in line with quality, cost and time standards.
• Coordinate and manage FTI activities end to end with stakeholders, covering budget, export control, stock, spare parts and verification and validation tasks.
• Support in-service operations by investigating and solving technical anomalies during development.
• Evaluate and implement make-or-buy processes together with new instrumentation technologies.

Required profile

• Degree in electronics, aeronautics, telecommunications engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in testing activities and solid expertise in data acquisition systems for analog, digital and bus signals.
• Advanced English (written and spoken); Spanish is desirable.
• Adaptability, proactive problem-solving, teamwork, organisation and negotiation skills in a multicultural environment.

Required skills

• Configuration of network devices (routers, switches) and TCP/UDP, IP, PTP, SNMP, Ethernet protocols.
• Telemetry equipment (transmitters, antennas, amplifiers, calibration) and GNSS.
• Radio frequency chains and network simulation tools (Wireshark, IPerf).
• Nice to have: programming in LUA, LabVIEW or Python; Airbus documentation and tools (NRD, Sabre, STILo, N-Show, RODAS, EPD, TLB, FTI databases, DOORS).
