Head of Engineering Marketplace

About the role

Fever, a global live-entertainment discovery platform, is hiring a Head of Engineering Marketplace in Madrid. The role leads the engineering strategy, delivery, scalability and operating model of the platform powering the core purchase funnel, covering Experience, Checkout, Discoverability and Post Purchase. It ensures the marketplace stays fast, reliable, conversion-optimised and resilient during peak traffic.

Key responsibilities

• Own the engineering strategy, roadmap delivery, quality bar, reliability and architectural evolution of the Marketplace domain.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data, Commercial and Operations leaders to improve the full funnel from discovery through booking and post-purchase.
• Raise traffic resilience and operational excellence, including readiness for peaks, launches and on-sales, incident response, observability and capacity planning.
• Improve systems for search and discoverability, pricing and conversion, checkout and payments, post-purchase servicing and experimentation.
• Balance short-term growth with long-term platform health, simplifying architecture where helpful and investing where bottlenecks will emerge.
• Set up operating mechanisms: quarterly planning, technical reviews, dependency management, staffing plans, engineering metrics and post-incident learning.
• Shape company-wide engineering standards in platform quality, release management, data-informed decisions and AI-enabled productivity.

Required profile

• Around 10+ years in software engineering, with substantial experience leading engineering leaders and cross-functional, product-facing organisations.
• Proven track record leading multiple teams through managers, ideally in a marketplace, checkout, discovery, growth, consumer trust or similar funnel-heavy domain.
• Demonstrated ability to turn commercial goals into engineering priorities using metrics, experimentation and clear trade-offs.
• Track record of improving engineering maturity: planning discipline, staffing models, quality systems, architecture review, delivery predictability and leadership development.

Required skills

• Distributed systems, modern cloud infrastructure, APIs and integrations, mobile and web product systems, observability and incident management.
• Ownership or deep partnership on at least two of: search/recommendations, checkout/payments, risk/fraud/trust, retention/lifecycle/post-purchase, internationalisation/localisation, high-traffic consumer web/mobile.
• Nice to have: ticketing, travel, e-commerce, gaming commerce, consumer fintech or classifieds experience; search, ranking, personalisation or recommendation systems; payments, refunds, fraud prevention, identity or regulated transactions; AI/ML product features; global, localised products with multiple payment methods and regions.
