IT Network Engineer

About the role

Roche is looking for an intermediate IT Network Engineer in Madrid who independently solves technical business problems and contributes to challenging projects. The engineer designs, builds, tests and implements resilient network solutions, evaluates new technologies and helps shape technical documentation and standards. The role requires strong problem-solving and communication skills to work with cross-functional teams and consult internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a Tier 3/4 technical escalation point for critical network incidents, performance bottlenecks and post-mortem root cause analyses.
• Design, validate and test Proof of Concepts in lab environments to evaluate emerging network tools, protocols and vendor solutions.
• Present complex information and potential solutions to cross-functional teams and represent the organisation on projects, acting as a consultant to stakeholders.
• Maintain network diagrams, topology specifications and runbooks, and ensure designs follow quality, regulatory standards and the organisation's architectural strategy.
• Collaborate with diverse teams, including virtual teams across locations and cultures, and apply technical principles with deep knowledge of networking.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Over 3 years of experience as a Network Engineer.
• Experience supporting, troubleshooting and implementing large, complex data networks (LAN, DC LAN, WAN, wireless) and working with external vendors.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Able to work flexible hours, handle occasional overtime and take part in on-call duties.

Required skills

• Cisco CCNA/P certification preferred.
• Infrastructure automation, including automated provisioning of network devices, IaC, scripting, logging, monitoring and observability tools.
• Scrum and Agile methodologies, and the ability to run PoCs to assess new technologies.
