Junior Machine Learning Engineer (GenAI)

About the role

The AI Lab, part of HP's Technology and Innovation Office, brings state-of-the-art research in Generative AI to HP's product portfolio. It works in two locations, Sant Cugat (Spain) and Palo Alto (USA), and aims to operationalise the Gen AI model lifecycle, build models for key initiatives in Personal Systems and research Generative AI. The Junior Machine Learning Engineer will research and develop generative AI models, work with team members and business unit partners on proof-of-concept prototypes and collaborate with scientists, developers and product managers.

Key responsibilities

• Help execute the technical strategy of the AI Lab to support HP's AI roadmap.
• Support new processes and standards so teams build high-quality, safe models.
• Develop tooling for the model lifecycle and promote best practices.
• Apply state-of-the-art Gen AI modelling (fine-tuning) and evaluation techniques.
• Help develop strategic engineering proof of concepts in Gen AI.

Required profile

• BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Data Science or a related field, or commensurate experience; an MSc in Generative AI is a plus.
• 0-3 years of work experience; related internships are valuable.
• Previous exposure to Gen AI in projects or internships.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with agility in learning.

Required skills

• Programming languages; Python and C++/C# are a plus.
• Machine learning, deep learning, generative AI and statistical modelling.
• Fine-tuning or evaluation work on LLMs and LVMs.
• Experience with Hugging Face repositories and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
