Junior Terminal Ballistic Simulation Engineer
Destinus · Madrid
Job description
About the role
Destinus is looking for a Junior Terminal Ballistic Simulation Engineer to join its Kinetics Team in Madrid. The role builds and improves simulation tools that help engineers predict how advanced warhead designs perform against complex targets before physical testing. It suits someone early in their career who wants to develop expertise in computational mechanics and terminal ballistics on real defense systems, working alongside experienced engineers.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve terminal ballistic simulation models focused on warhead effects against hardened structures.
- Build, run, validate and optimize computational models using engineering software such as NX, IMPETUS or similar CAE tools.
- Work with the Kinetics Team to turn design requirements and physical scenarios into accurate computational models.
- Analyze simulation results, identify trends and help improve model accuracy, robustness and computational efficiency.
- Compare simulation predictions with analytical, experimental or test data to support model validation.
- Document simulation methodologies, assumptions, results and conclusions for technical traceability.
- Support engineering investigations and design decisions through simulation and data-driven analysis, and suggest improvements to simulation workflows and processes.
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Academic or practical experience in computational mechanics, impact mechanics, terminal ballistics, penetration mechanics or related areas.
- Experience with finite element analysis and computational simulation through academic projects, research or professional experience.
- Fluent English, spoken and written.
Required skills
- Knowledge of NX, IMPETUS or similar nonlinear explicit simulation software is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of solid mechanics, dynamic loading and material behavior.
- Ability to interpret simulation results and link computational outputs to real physical behavior.
- Programming or scripting for simulation automation or data processing is a plus.
